Cookie Policy

The cookies and browser storage we use, what each one does, and how you can control them.

Last updated: August 28, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how IKESON Technology Solutions (“HalalNearby”) uses cookies and similar browser storage (such as localStorage) on halalnearby.com. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

What cookies and browser storage are

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Browser storage like localStorage works similarly, keeping small pieces of information on your device so the Service can remember things between visits. We use both, but only for a small, focused set of purposes.

Essential cookies and storage we use

  • Authentication and session. When you sign in, we set a session cookie (better-auth.session_token) so you stay logged in as you move between pages. Short-lived companion cookies may also be set during sign-in — for example during Google sign-in, or if you choose not to be remembered on a device. Without the session cookie you cannot stay signed in.
  • Country selection. The country cookie remembers which country you browse in, as a two-letter code such as CA. It lasts up to one year and is set when you pick a country — or once automatically, based on your approximate location.
  • Cookie-consent choice. When you answer our cookie notice, we store hn-cookie-consent in localStorage so the banner does not reappear on every visit, and hn-analytics-consent to remember whether you allowed analytics. If localStorage is blocked, answering the banner only hides it for that browser session and analytics stay off.
  • Signed-out favorites. If you save restaurants while signed out, we keep that list in localStorageon your device. When you sign in, it is merged into your account once, and a small flag is stored so the merge doesn’t repeat.

These are essential to operate the features you ask for, so they are not optional while you use the Service.

Analytics & tracking

Our own analytics. We measure how listings are used with our own first-party analytics: restaurant page views and outbound actions such as link clicks, calls, and directions. Each event records only the restaurant, the type of action (for a link click, which link), and the time — not who you are, your IP address, or your browser identity. These are counted on our own servers, set no cookie, and are not shared with anyone.

Google Analytics. We also use Google Analytics 4, a web-analytics service provided by Google, to understand which pages and searches people find useful. It is a third-party service: when it runs, your browser loads a script from googletagmanager.com, and Google sets its own cookies (typically _ga and _ga_<id>, which last up to two years) to recognise a returning browser. Google receives the pages you view on this site, your approximate location, and standard technical details such as your IP address, browser, device, and referring site, and processes them on our behalf and for its own purposes under Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not sell what it collects.

It only runs if you say yes.Google Analytics is off by default and is loaded only after you choose “Accept” on our cookie notice. Until then — and permanently, if you choose “Essential only” — no Google script is loaded, no Google cookie is set, and no request is made to Google at all. It also never runs in our staff areas. Declining costs you nothing: every part of the site works the same either way.

Advertising cookies

Ads we serve ourselves do not set third-party cookies. If we enable Google AdSense in the future, pages showing those ads will load Google’s ad script, and Google may set or read cookies or similar identifiers to serve, measure, and limit ads. We will update this policy when that happens.

Location and maps

The “Near me” search asks for your browser’s location only when you choose it, and only with your permission. Your coordinates are used to sort results by distance and are not stored in a cookie or localStorage. Restaurant pages may embed or link to third-party maps and external websites. Those third parties may use their own cookies when you load or click them.

Your choices

You can change your analytics choice here whenever you like — turning it off stops the Google script loading from your next page onwards, and you never have to find the banner again to do it.

You can also clear or block cookies and site storage through your browser settings at any time. Clearing the country cookie resets your country preference. Clearing localStorage resets the cookie-banner dismissal, your analytics choice, and signed-out favorites. Blocking essential cookies will sign you out and may break account features.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, including if we enable new advertising, analytics, authentication, or storage features.
